A tourism development and the world's biggest organic orchard have been announced for Webster's Parramatta Creek site, near Elizabeth Town in northern Tasmania.
The agricultural company has sold the orchard and its fruit processing factory for $3.4 million to Longford organic farmers, the Bellamy family.
David Bellamy says the factory will be offered for use by the state's other organic farmers as the orchard markets its apples direct to wholesalers.
Mr Bellamy says the orchard is ready-made for conversion to organic production.
"One of the best advantages of this orchard in addition to having good economies of scale in the terms of size of it, one of the really big benefits is that it has a perfect mix of apple-types and through those varieties that they have got here, we are just going to tweak at the edges," he said.
